The Government has announced plans for expert brokers to help local councils and developers to renegotiate planning agreements on stalled developments.
The intermediaries will offer a free-of-charge advice and support service to councils and developers and will be available to help support renegotiations of section 106 agreements in order to restart work on stalled development schemes.
The brokers will provide technical expertise to unlock negotiations, act as go-betweens in disputes, and offer access to a range of support services.
Councils in Leeds, Ipswich, Corby, Swindon, Ashford, Gloucester, Kirklees, Carlisle, Northumberland and Durham will be the first to benefit from the support offered by the expert brokers and will identify key stalled development sites that they want to see back up and running. The scheme will then begin working with other councils across the country.
Official government figures put the number of stalled development schemes with 10 housing units or more at around 1,400.
